A week ago deputies from the DeKalb county sheriff's office went to the door of Natina Griffin who was wanted on a civil matter. They arrived around 1 am. Griffin refused to come to the door for over thirty minutes. Having been in law enforcement for a long time and worked fugitive for many years the officers thoughts were was she using the delay to hide in the home? Were they readiny for a fight or, to run from the officers. When she finally opened the door the officers obviously aggravated came in the door and took out their frusttaions by cursing an inappropriate behavior. The sheriff punished thsm appropriatly and in an news release announced the punishment. However, the suspect was not happy with the decioson and wants the officers jobs. She also demanded that she and other wanted persos on civil matters not be bothered by the sheriff's department in the early morning hours. Sheriff Brown has complied with her demands and will not allow a civil warrrant will not be served after 1100 pm.
This presents a miriade of problems. Civil warrants are oft times domestic situations. What if the suspect had been wanted on a misdemeanor assault on his/her wife and the deputies know he is there after 1100? In other words has he inadvertantly drawn a line in the sand? Sheriff Brown has been good for DeKalb county having served as it's Public Safety Director and Sheriff for many years. I admire him and support him and I hope this works out for him.
